History
Very little is known of Tess Mercer's early before she came to Metropolis. It is known that she was born and raised in Louisiana and grew up to become a marine biologist. A few years ago, Tess and a few of her colleagues were stranded on an island in the South Pacific where they became the prisoners of a group of pirates. At this time, Tess met the wounded castaway Oliver Queen and nursed him back to health, earning herself the nickname "Mercy". Once Queen recovered, he helped to defeat the pirates and get Tess off the island. The two became romantically involved with one another, but their relationship was brief. Mercer and Queen parted ways, each of them choosing to pursue their respective careers. [1]
At some point, Tess Mercer met and became the protégé of billionaire industrialist Lex Luthor. After Luthor disappeared during a private sojourn to the Arctic, Tess Mercer assumed the role of acting CEO of LuthorCorp and the managing editor of the Daily Planet. She also continued all of Lex's off-the-books projects such as his Black Creek, Montana facility. [2]
Tess Mercer was obssessed with maintaining Lex Luthor's legacy and finding out what had happened to him in the Arctic. She quickly learned about Lex's research into alien technology, and coveted the blue Crystal of Knowledge that was once in Lex's possession.
Tess has since insinutated herself into the lives of everyone who knew Lex Luthor, including Chloe Sullivan, Lois Lane and Clark Kent. She occasionally kept in contact with Oliver Queen, and though the two have long since parted ways, it was not uncommon for them to spend a private evening together. Tess maintains that she no longer has a romantic attraction to Oliver Queen, and describes their bouts of intimacy as "scratching an itch".Powers and Abilities
