The Weird #3 is an issue of the series The Weird (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1988.
Synopsis for "Confrontation"
While Billy Langley tells his dog, Ptang, about the Macrolatts and Zarolatts, the Weird confronts Jason Morgan. Sensing the approach of the Justice League, Jason seals the building off in a giant, regenerating cube of solid light which the heroes cannot penetrate. Jason manages to encapsulate the Weird who asks him why he would betray his own planet. Jason, realizing he has six hours to complete the bridge, humors the Weird by revealing his life story:
Jason was named by his mother after the Greek legend of Jason and the Argonauts. When Jason was four, his father hung himself over his failed buisness. His mother became an alcoholic eventually becoming abusive towards Jason. She eventually died when one of her "gentlemen friends" killed her with a razor. Jason was sent to an orphanage where he learned how to fight. By the age of fifteen he had gotten into "trouble with a girl" and he was kicked out of the orphange. Jason drifted from job to job never taking interest in any of them and always being fired. He lived for a time on the streets surviving on handouts and garbage until he realized he'd be unable to attract women. So he decided to try again to work and went to the employment bureau which found him a job as a garbageman. He stayed with the job for five years constantly striking out with women. After a hurtful encounter with a passing female jogger, Jason snapped and attacked her. She pressed charges and Jason was sent to jail for six months during which time he decided his problem had been his attitude. Upon release he returned to the garbageman job while he waited for destiny to call. When it didn't, he began drinking. Eventually he was contacted by the Macrolatts through his dreams. They promised him power and contacted him every night for a week instructing him on what to do. He decided to try and gained his powers practicing every night for weeks. The Macrolatts have promised him he'd become leader of the planet.
Jason decides to begin creating the bridge again while the Weird manages to break free from his imprisonment. Before he can stop Jason, two Macrolatts emerge from the bridge and escape. The Weird's escape does destroy the bridge preventing more Macrolatts from entering and the Weird kills Jason knowing he'll never stop recreating the portals as long as he's alive. With Jason dead, the light cube dissipates and the Weird is surrounded by the Justice League. He pleads with the League to help him stop the Macrolatts but realizes that, since he didn't confide in them earlier, they do not trust him. Martian Manhunter, who had been invisible, is able to knock the Weird unconscious before he realizes he is under attack. Just then the Macrolatts return, possessing the bodies of Superman and Nuklon.

- A caption indicates that the story takes place before Justice League #7. There is some confusion due to the Justice League's roster, however, as Captain Atom did not join until Issue #7 and Booster Gold, Mister Miracle and Captain Marvel were all members before Issue #7 (none appear in the story).
- Bernie Wrightson's first name is misspelled "Berni" in the interior credits.
