HistoryEdit

Ted Knight operated as the "mystery man" called Starman during World War II as a member of the Justice Society of America. After the war, though, Knight had himself admitted into a sanitarium following a mental breakdown that came from the guilt of having had a hand in developing weapons that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Sometime after his release, Knight spent his days as a recluse in his observatory, developing a new version of his "gravity rod" which would use the same cosmic radiation that powered the earlier invention, calling it his "cosmic rod".

In 1950, at the rally in Washington, D.C. where all costumed superheroes were to appear by Presidential decree to show their loyalty, Joan Dale (Miss America) publicly exposed Tex Thompson as being the Ultra-Humanite and attempted to also expose Dynaman as being Adolf Hitler in Daniel Dunbar's body when the Ultra-Humanite had Robert Crane (Robotman) silence her by murdering her in public. Rex Tyler (Hourman) took over for Joan Dale in the exposure of both Thompson and Dunbar, causing Dynaman to show his true colors and to attack the various superheroes present. When most of the gathered superheroes failed to stop Dynaman, Johnny Chambers (Johnny Quick) brought forth Knight with his experimental new cosmic rod that he was going to use against Dynaman, but it was easily snapped in two. Nevertheless, Libby Lawrence (Liberty Belle) used a broken piece of the rod and jammed it through Dynaman's weakened body, causing him to be electrocuted to death.

Some years later, Chambers noted that Knight got married and doesn't work at nights much anymore.
