Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States. Born in Virginia, he became a farmer, lawyer, professor and writer. He was the Vice President to his predecessor John Adams, and his successor was James Madison. Jefferson was notable as an extremely influential political figure during the American War of Independence, and as the writer of the Declaration of Independence.
