History
Tommy is the son of prominent businessman Malcolm Merlyn, he was the best friend of Oliver Queen. When he was 8 years old, his mother was brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, and his father disappeared for two years, returning home a changed man. As Tommy grew to adulthood, he became a playboy and womanizer, much to the chagrin of his father, who felt that he was too weak for the harsh realities of the world. When Oliver disappeared, Tommy became romanically involved with Laurel Lance. After Oliver returned to Starling City, Tommy thought he got his old friend back but soon realized that Ollie has changed. Not long after Oliver's return, Malcolm grew tired of Tommy's playboy image and froze all his assets. Tommy rebounded by getting a job at Oliver's new nightclub.
