Tiamat was sleeping inside one of the Observation Ships that the Annunake left behind over 40,000 years ago with the Atlantean capital of Poseidonis on top of the ship. When Atlan transported Aquaman to the city to prepare him for the return of the Annunake, Tiamat was awakened. She then confronted Aquaman and claimed that humans had worshiped her as a goddess for millions of years. They did battle and she was defeated and forced to retreat, partly because the AI of the ship now sided with the humans of Earth and therefore assisted Aquaman.[1]

When the fleet of Hunter/Gatherer warships arrived, Tiamat was in league with the American Admiral (Strom) and the Atlantean Kordax. They were planning to conquer the Earth and after Strom failed in his attempts to have Aquaman killed, the admiral was killed by Tiamat.[2] While the Atlanteans and the various lost cities of Atlantis aided by superheroes battle the Hunter/Gatherer forces, Tiamat attacks the White House which is defended by Power Girl and Arion. She was not working with the Hunter/Gatherers despite them being part of the Annunake Empire, as that empire had changed too much for her liking and preferred the old ways. Once Aquaman arrived, the tide turned for her and she was defeated and sent to a magical prison created by Atlan.[3]
