Tom Mix is the franchise built around the real-life actor Tom Mix.

History

Actor Tom Mix starred in hundreds of Western movies in the silent area, starting in The Cowboy Millionaire (1909), until the rise of the talkies in the thirties. He got a popular radio series in 1933, though he did not play in it, which renewed interest. The Ralston cereal company that sponsored the show, Tom Mix Ralston Straight Shooters, ran several comic strip ad for the radio show, including in New Fun Comics #1 (1935).

Tom Mix soon got his regular feature in Dell's Popular Comics #4 (1936). Mix died in 1940, but his radio show remained popular. In 1948, Fawcett began the series Tom Mix Western. They also published the feature in their anthology titles, starting in Wow Comics #65 - the series was rebranded as Western Hero five issues later.
