In the early 1940s, the Toy Merchant was an enemy of Doll Man.

History

In 1943 in New York City, an extortionist and sculptor calling himself the Toy Merchant used hypnosis and specially carved dolls to simulate the effect of "Voodoo Dolls," and used this trickery to extort money from immigrant laborers in one neighborhood of the city. Those who refused to buy one of his dolls died shortly later, those who bought dolls did not. He had the bad luck of crossing paths with Doll Man, and after two short fights, he'd been beaten senseless and turned over to the police.
