Justice League Vol 2 1 - So, So
I'm not really sure how I feel about this comic. Was it the best Justice League comic I read? No. Was it the best Justice League #1 comic I read? No. Did I like it? I thought it was okay. First, what I liked: I liked the establishment of the characters - Batman is thought of as an urban legend. He has no powers and talks in a scary voice. Green Lantern is part of an intergalatic police force. His ring is probably the most powerful weapon in the world, he's a bit cocky, and Batman thinks he's a meathead. Now, here's what I didn't like: Jim Lee's art was only okay. For example, look at Jim's depiction of Wonder Woman on the cover, and compare it to an Adam Hughes rendition of her. Which one would you rather date? It's not that I dislike Jim Lee's art, but I feel it's too liney and it's just not to my liking too much. That, combined with splash pages, and little dialogue reminded me of an Image Comics book - part of what I thought of as a by-gone era that I was glad to leave behind. The little dialogue is my biggest complaint. I feel like "Where's the story?" Ten years ago or prior, this would have been a mere eight-page story. I couldn't really decide if I liked it or not, due to the lack of content. I ecpect that it will probably not be until issue #4 that I have enough content to decide if I like it or not, and to fully decide how much I like it. My other big complaint is the price tag - $3.99 for 24 pages!?! Seriously? I felt kinda ripped-off. My rating? 3 out of 5 stars. If you have money to burn, pick this one up, otherwise, try one of the other books. While non-super-hero comics such as All-Star Western Vol 3 are not to some people's taste, I feel that comic was much better written, had some actual story and content, and was much more impressed by that comic. So far, not off to a better start than Justice League Vol 1, JLA Vol 1, nor Justice League of America Vol 2, all of which I think were better than this issue. Due to the almost fifty year difference between Justice League of America Vol 1 1 and this issue, I won't try to compare the two. I hope that in the over-all story arc I am more impressed, as I am a life-long fan of Justice League and will continue to collect, almost no-matter what. Goblyn4evil 17:15, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
