Vandal Savage was born sometime in the prehistoric era. Around 25,000 years ago, a meteor hit the Earth, nearby where his tribe lived. While his tribemates fled, Vander slept by it, as it provided warmth in the cold night. As the decades passed, he found that he never aged, and as his siblings and tribemates all grew old and died, he continued to evolve, both mentally and physically. Thousands of years later, during World War II, he received a message from his future self in the 21st century, along with designs for future weaponry.[1]

The designs impressed the German High Command and they named Savage the leader of the Third Reich. Savage then placed Hitler in suspended animation. Using the new weapons, the Nazis destroyed the Allied forces at D-Day, and invaded Great Britain and the United States, conquering the entire world. In the late 20th century, Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered by Nazis for speaking out against Savage's regime, causing Bruce to become Batman and starting a resistance movement. In 2002, the Justice League returned to Earth and found Savage's government in place. Using a time machine Batman built, they went back to June 6, 1944, D-Day. Around this time, Savage was preparing for the invasion of America.[2]

In an alternate Timeline where The Superman Revenge Squad sent the man of steel several thousand years into the future, Vandal Savage created a gravity altering device, killed the remaining members of the Justice League, and destroyed the Earth, turning the sun red, leaving him the only man alive. Savage spent the millennia's to follow growing insane from the solitude. During this time, he started to rethink his plans for world domination, and started rebuilding the Earth. Savage's primary start was Metropolis to honor Superman. Among his project was a spaceship to visit other worlds. However Savage abandoned this plan, feeling it should be his punishment. 30,000 later, Superman had been transported to this time, where Vandal Savage graciously greeted him, excited for someone to talk too. During his discussion, Superman tries to kill Savage, but finds it pointless. During his stay, Superman finds Savage's time machine and came up with a plan: Since Vandal Savage can't use the device to go anywhere in time he's already been, send Superman back in time to after his funeral, then stop Savage from destroying the world. The two work together, but Savage realizes a problem: The Time machine needs a proper power source, the only one available was stolen by insect creatures. The two storm the colony where Superman's powers are restored, being the power source is a miniaturized sun. Before being sent off, Savage tells Superman that the key to his gravity device is a component from Ray Palmer, stop him then stops the time ripple. With one last request, Vandal Savage ask Superman to do what he was born to do: Save the World. An unknown time later, Savage looks in shock, seeing people and buildings fade into existence while Savage himself fades away, implying the League was successful. Grateful, Savage's final world were: "Thank you, my friend."
