Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery and is one of the world's largest producers of film and television entertainment. Warner Bros. has several subsidiary companies, including Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Home Video, DC Comics, and New Line Cinema. Warner owns half of The CW Television Network.

History

Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner established Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc. on April 4, 1923. In 1967, Jack sold his controlling interest in the studio to Seven Arts Productions and it was renamed Warner Bros.-Seven Arts, Inc. Kinney National Company, a parking and cleaning service provider that owned National Periodical Publications around that time, bought Warner Bros.-Seven Arts in November 1969[1] and renamed it Warner Bros., Inc. Kinney then spun off its non-entertainment assets in 1972 and renamed itself Warner Communications. Under Warner's leadership, National would be renamed DC Comics in 1977.

Warner Bros.' first DC-related productions were the 1974 Wonder Woman pilot and the 1975 TV series that followed it. Warner has produced every DC-related movie since 1989's Batman, every live-action series since 1990's The Flash, and every animated series since 1992's Batman: The Animated Series. In 2016, Warner Bros. created a DC division known as DC Films, later DC Studios, which came to produce the majority of live-action and animated films and series for release in theaters and on HBO Max by 2022.

Looney Tunes

Looney Tunes is a franchise that spawned from a series of theatrical cartoon shorts produced by Warner Bros. The cartoons each debuted in theaters from 1930 to 1969. A second similar series of cartoons, Merrie Melodies, ran from 1931 to 1969. DC has made comics involving the Looney Tunes cast.

Mortal Kombat

On February 12, 2009, Mortal Kombat owner Midway Games filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.[2][3] Warner Bros. then acquired nearly all of Midway's assets.
