Synopsis for "Survival of the Species, Part 4: Fight or Flight"

At the IO Archive in New York, FBI agents Clark and Ludlum search the IO database and learn about the Daemonites, Kherubim, and the Puritans.  IO security is then ordered to kill them.  At Halo, Olympia Atreidae reveals herself to be a Daemonite.  The Puritans escape with Emp and Warblade as captives. Milos Tsabo, Marlowe’s business partner, enters amidst the destruction, informs the WildC.A.T.s he has taken sole control of Halo, and orders them to leave.  Minus Colt and Zealot, the team departs with Max, Mythos, Olympia, and Sister Eve joining to pursue the Puritans back to their headquarters at Sector 52.  Upon arrival, the WildC.A.T.s infiltrate the base and engage the Puritans.  Olympia briefly possesses their leader, Elijah Sterling, to get the team into the base’s inner facilities.  Just as the Puritans begin to overwhelm them, Jeremy joins the fight, revealing himself as Maul.  Using a neural sample extracted from Emp, Puritan scientists activate a time machine.  The WildC.A.T.s are too late as de Medici’s strike team goes back in time.

Notes

  • Originally published by Image Comics.
  • This issue was originally sold polybagged with a copy of the Divine Right Preview comic.
  • As part of its "New Horizons" promotional event, Wildstorm published a variant edition of this issue with a cover by Travis Charest. This cover combines with with the variant covers of seven other Wildstorm titles, also by Charest, to form a larger image.
  • This issue is the last time the Spartan unit with John Colt's personality appears on panel. He stays behind with Zealot while the Spartan unit with Hadrian's personality goes after the Puritans with the rest of the team. Colt is next mentioned in WildC.A.T.s vol. 1 #50 when Hadrian says he has integrated the consciousnesses that comprise his mind, including Colt's. This suggests that Hadrian and Colt merged at some point between stories.

Trivia

  • FBI Agents Ludlum and Clark are modeled on Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, from the U.S. television series, The X-Files.
