Synopsis for "The Immortal Storm"

The Alien Alliance soundly beaten, Wonder Woman parts ways with her fellow heroes, anticipating peace as well as a new friendship with the Justice League. This hope is sorely tested by her return to Boston, as the light of day leaves Ixion's carnage clearer than ever. Worse, Gen. Hillary alerts her that Steve is missing in action, his mission having been sabotaged by a Durlan impostor.

With Captain Atom by her side, Wonder Woman storms the Durlans' last surviving outpost, a small island near Cuba. The Durlans resist fiercely, but are easily overpowered, with even their famed shapeshifting useless against the Lasso of Truth and Captain Atom's military acumen. The two heroes soon find Steve in the Durlans' interrogation room, brutally tortured but still alive; Wonder Woman takes charge of the barely-conscious Colonel, while Captain Atom proceeds to another assignment in New York.[1]

Meanwhile, a self-pitying Hermes is visited by Harmonia, who urges him to redeem himself among his once-faithful. Chastened, the Messenger-God begins a new demonstration in the middle of Boston, using his divine powers to repair everything Ixion had destroyed. Unfortunately, the demonstration is mistaken for a supervillain attack by the Creeper, who incites a humiliating—if largely harmless—fight.

To Hermes' relief, a returning Wonder Woman quickly brings the Creeper to heel with the Lasso of Truth. Seconds later, a strange black flash fills the sky.[2]

Synopsis for "Bonus Book No. 12: On Wings and Arrows"

In an age before Wonder Woman's birth, a band of demons scheme to escape Doom's Doorway by manipulating a happy-go-lucky Amazon named Janestra. Knowing how Janestra admires and envies Themyscira's birds, the demons pool their magic to create a changeling, which approaches Janestra disguised as the winged youth Icarus.

By the next morning, "Icarus" has not only seduced Janestra but baited her with the myth of Abaris, the ancient sage who rode the skies on an arrow blessed by Apollo; this arrow, supposedly lost to the ages, was in fact left on Themyscira by one of Abaris' disciples. Having full access to the island archives, Janestra easily recovers it for the changeling, who promptly reveals himself and prepares to break Doom's Doorway with the arrow's divine power.

In horror and rage, Janestra attacks the changeling, who mocks her naiveté and faith while using the arrow's powers against her. Defiant to the last, Janestra manages to wrest the arrow back and impale the demon upon it, snapping its shaft in the process. As the changeling dies, so too does the demons' plot - but Janestra's dreams of flying, despite everything, remain stronger than ever.
