Synopsis for "The Ties That Bind"

The morning after Eris' defeat, the Amazons and their mortal guests begin repairing the damage from their riots (and burying the remainder of Eris' apples). Despite their ordeal, both parties ultimately declare the Themysciran summit a success, and Diana returns the mortals to Man's World in high spirits. Soon, Lois publishes the experience as a multi-part exclusive in the Daily Planet, sharing it with millions across the world.

Meanwhile, Vanessa begins her junior counselorship in upstate New York, encountering unruly campers, ghost stories, poison ivy, and more. Throughout, her friendship with Lucy persists - as does her quiet jealousy of the brighter, wealthier, better-developed girl. To her surprise, Lucy eventually admits a mutual jealousy, citing Vanessa's own life as a happier, freer one. Several days later, Vanessa undergoes her first menstruation, which she - and Lucy - hails as a rite of maturity.

Thousand of miles away, Julia and her archaeological team continue to excavate a barren Turkish valley, hoping to find some trace of the Old Themyscira that the original Amazons had founded - and fled - so long ago. In time, a mail-call updates Julia with both the Themysciran summit and Vanessa's camp experiences; while the former interests her, the latter moves her to tears.

Shortly after finishing Vanessa's letters, Julia is met by another messenger: Diana's carrier pigeon Tiny One. Diana, having found her own return to Man's World unbearably lonely (with Etta away on assignment, Superman preoccupied, and Steve and Hermes strangely unreachable), has written asking to join Julia's excavation; with barely a moment's consideration, Julia writes back agreeing.

For her part, Diana anxiously anticipates Julia's response, little aware of the ominous shadow stalking Tiny One.
